O TOTANO E U CALAMARO
 
Da pesca chiu’ sfiziosa, do’ piscatore a mare
ca’ siente chiu’ e parla’, abbascia a marenella
chi’ dice e ghiute a tuotane, e chi’ e ghiute a calamare
mentre sall’esta a lenza de coffe, dinte a spasella
 
Che bellu paragone, da vita e tutte e jiuorne
ce’ chi se’ fa’ a fa’ fesso, cu’ tante e sti’ pretese
pure si staie attiente, de’ femmene ca’ vanne attuorno
t’acchiappe n’ambe n’bocca, cu’ tante e chelle spese
 
A comme miette l’esca, e si sule staie felice
chi’ vo’ pisca’a nu totano, cu’ piezze e seccie vecchie
se’ pigliane calamari, si’ all’ambo miette alice
po’ te truove a mana nera, tirannece a pellecchia
 
Si’ vuo’ nu’ buonu pesce, pe’ tutto chistu mare
si piglia senza e coffe, basta ca’ si’ sincero
tu te cride e piglia’ a nu totano, ma truove o calamare
ca’ t’aize o quarte e rete, e te’ pette a faccia nera

you catch a king squid if at the hook you put anchovies
than you hand will get tinted black when you try to skin it
 
If you want to catch a good fish in this huge ocean
you’ll catch it without fishing-line as long you are sincere
thinking you’ve caught a dumb squid, but you’ll find a king one
that picks up his back side and sprays your face black
