NOËL
The sun kneels down from a gray sky.
To hasten hours for vespers,
Snowflakes fall on meadow and roofs;
Muffling the evensong of day.
Whitened is the little village,
Adorned as in a fairy tale;
Belfry bells are ringing joyously,
Crystals shimmer in plangent sound .
Grandfather tends to the fireplace,
Children are hushed by lullabies,
Dreaming the gifts of Santa Claus,
And enchantment reigns over all.
