AMMORE MIO CA’ STAIE M’PARAVISE

e ghiette a primma scola, dinte o Stradone
a fenesta mia, sotta a chella de Funiciello
po’ o primme prufessore mio, fuie Alparone

Partimme p’America, quann’io ero giuvinotto

O ’58 a Ischia Ponte, nuie turnamme
e Funiciello nata vota, nuie salutamme

avietteme tutti comme na botta rinte o core,
e’ sape’ e na malatia ca’ nun ce’ sta’ cura

doppe quatt’anne e lotta, e tanti core appise

to giuro cu’ tutto o core, e tu a me me saie
ca pur’io voglio veni’ loche qualche jiuorne.

MY LOVE, WHO IS NOW IN PARADISE

( this was my first poetry written in February 1996 )
after the death on my childhood friend, my dear wife

I grew up in Ischia on the street that goes to the Castello
and went to my first school in the Stradone street
my window right under the Funiciello Family window
and my very first teacher was Alparone

We departed for America when I was a teenager
with seven of us in the family to find fortune
we sank with the Andrea Doria one bad night
but thank the good Lord we didn’t loose anyone

In 1958 I returned to Ischia Ponte
I went with my sister, she was getting married
the Funiciellos ones again we said hello
and of their daughter my heart fell in love

We wrote ardently each other for two years
with a love that was growing with joy and gusto
I returned to Ischia ones again to unite these two hearts
and my uncle Monsignor married us in the Month of August

35 years married with a beautiful life and so much love
with five children and happiness of all colors
we got like a spear in our heart
to find out about an incurable disease

after four year of battle and lots of broken heart
with so much medicine with this bad illness
the Lord Jesus wanted you with Him
exactly on the day of Christmas Eve

treasure of mine listen I know where you are
it’s a rewards of God give to only the good people
I swear to you with all my heart and you know me well
That I also want to come where you are, someday
